Week Number Fifty

Week Number 50 ( Nov. 24th > 30th)

Monday Nov. 24th
Walked the dogs alot and managed to run at least one whole mile...whooopeee!!!! that bout killed me.

Walked the dogs about every day. Maybe I'll run after the holidays? Gettin fatter every day!

Week Number Fourty Nine

Week Number 49 ( Nov. 17th > Nov. 23rd )

Looks like another week of no running. In school at Burlington most of the week for QMS Level II Asphalt Plant Tech re-certification.

Got back home Thursday and got my dogs back. Walked them a plenty but no running.

Week Number Fourty Eight

Week Number 48 ( November 10th > November 16th)

Well...it's Thursday and I haven't done squat except walk the dogs every day. Got a major tooth-ache, and can't schedule a root canal until the 21st? Oh the pain and agony!
Miss Civil got the girls back today, but I managed to walk them before they left.
Got school next week,so there goes another week shot to hell!

Friday Nov. 14th
The darn tooth got to hurting so bad they managed to squeeze me in early Friday morning and do the root canal a week early.

No running this week!

Monday Nov. 3rd

Rain all day. To wet to run or take dogs out. Miss Civil came to get the girls today.

Tuesday November 4th Election Day

Rain off and on all day. Managed to get out around 6:30 pm. Ran 2.5 miles, walked 1mile.

OK, I confess...I got the Election Day blues cause I'm afraid too many folks have been drinkin' the Obama Kool-Ade. Drank half a Miller Lite before I left the house to run.

It was drizzling rain when I got started and continued through the whole 3.5 miles. Luckily enough, the global warming made it bearable. Not a star in the sky, but the misty spray of drizzle was quite hypnotizing against the blur of the streetlights.

The run was exhilarating as I pretended to run through the pages of history on this historical day. At times I was on the verge of tears but they wouldn't come. Very emotional run. Ipod on shuffle........Pink Floyd, Stevie Nicks, Seal, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Blake Shelton, Pink, and way too many to list.

Come home and finish that beer I started. Use it to wash a valium down. Get on the inversion table for some hang time. Take a long shower and sittin here butt ass nekkid contemplating another beer while election news blares in the background.

I sure know how to celebrate history don't I? Oh well.......I can only pray now and I'm not a praying man!

Monday Oct. 27th
Walk dogs at River w/Dad & Tot. Really windy and cold. Then try to run. Only made it one mile in the cold wind and said the hell with it!

Tuesday Oct. 28th
Walk dogs at River w/Dad & Tot.

Wednesday Oct. 29th
Walk dogs at River w/Dad & Tot. Then go running. Run 2 miles, walk 1 mile. First mile with dogs in the stroller and last mile on my own. It was rather cool outside. Emily was shivering so I put them in the minivan after the first mile.

Thursday Oct. 30th
Walk dogs at River w/Dad & Tot. Miss Civil decided to let me keep the girls through this weekend. I'll take all the extra days with them I can get.

Friday Oct. 31st
Walk dogs at River w/Dad & Tot. Then we went out to eat some fresh Spot at Carolina BBQ. Belly too full to run!!!! Back home and turn off the lights to hide from the trick or treaters. Bed early.

Saturday Nov. 1st
Run 2 miles, walk 1 mile, with dogs in the stroller. Walked them at the river too!

Sunday Nov. 2nd
Didn't run today. Fish fry at Baby bro's.

Monday Oct. 6th

Run 2 miles, walk a mile. Starting out light because I was so slack last week.

Tuesday Oct. 7th

Miss Civil brought me the girls a couple days early. Took them to the river for a walk then to Barbados later on for another walk. It was nice and cool. Perfect running weather, but decided to take it easy on these old bones.

Wednesday Oct. 8th

Took Ab & Em w/me and met Dad down at the river w/his new dog "Tot"! I can't believe I forgot my camera? Maybe I'll do a post on her later?

Then took the dogs w/me to Barbados and run/walk 2.5 miles with the dog stroller. Thanks for fixin' it dad. It's a little squeaky but I'll lube the axel tomorrow and that should clear it up.

Thursday Oct. 9th
Raining a little managed to take the girls to the river & Barbados for two separate walks between showers.

Friday Oct. 10th

Take the girls to Barbados, run / walk 2.5 miles. Cut short by light rain.

Saturday Oct. 11th

Monday Sept. 29th

Take the dogs w/me. Walk them 1/2 mile, run 3 miles by myself, then walk the dogs another 1/2 mile for a cool down. I was sweating like a pig?

Tuesday Sept. 30th

No run today cause I have to go to an asphalt plant this evening to get a sample from the evening shift. Dad fixed my doggie stroller. He found an excellent metal rod to use for a new axle at the local hardware store for only $3.50? Works good as new!!!!! So, I don't have any spare parts for you yet sis-in-law! Sorry bout that!

I got slack? Didn't run any the rest of the week. Just felt sluggish and lazy?

Monday Sept. 22nd

Go to Barbados Blvd and Run/Walk 4 miles.

Wednesday Sept. 24th

Go to Barbados Blvd and Run 4 miles. Walk it off for 1/2 mile. Very windy, but nice and cool outside.

Got rained out for Thursday & Friday.....That's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it!

Saturday Sept. 27 th

Yes I ran today but I need to put this here for future reference first.

My girlfriend that I dated for most of this summer got married today at 2:00 PM about 1/4 mile from my house, and the reception was held at the same place our affair started at back in May! My mind is blown.....better him than me?

OK...where was I?... Oh yeah... this is a running blog,,,yeah, I was running away from the altar!

I tried to get out and run this morning. Didn't get out until around 10:30am and the sun was hot and the wet ground was steaming. I felt like an ant under a magnifying glass. Only managed about 1.5 miles and said the hell with it.

Then later in the evening around 6:30pm, I tried it again. I managed to run/walk a little over 3.5 miles, but had to struggle to make every step of the way. I don't know what's wrong w/me? The wedding day blues?

Oh, I almost forgot.....I had the dogs in the stroller w/me on both runs.

Sunday Sept. 28th

No running today, but I backed over the dog stroller with the minivan and snapped one of the wheels off of it! Dad thinks he can fix it, but I doubt it.
My sis-in-law needs a tire for hers. Maybe I'll buy a new one ,and we'll use the old one for parts? Had a great time at baby bro's tonight!

Don't know what happened? Was gonna run Thursday but got rained out, then didn't make it to the 5 miler w/Scott & Kelly.

Saturday July 5th

Tri-Span 5 K

Met sis-in-law downtown Water street for the Tri-Span 5k. She came in first in her age group with a 27:42 chip time, and I ran it at a slow 31:41 chip time. Shaved a minute off of last weeks run though.

Looks like I need to up my weekly mileage if Im gonna hang w/sis!

Take dogs and stroller to Barbados Blvd. Walk 1/2 mile, run 2 miles, walk 1/2 mile. Hot and frikkin miserable!!!!!!! Didn't even let Emily run. Scared she'd overheat!
Thursday June 26th
Barbados Blvd, run 2.5 miles, walk 1/2 mile
Not quite as hot as Tuesday and I wasn't pushin' the dogs.
Gonna rest Friday and try to make the Diligence 5K Saturday morning.
Saturday June 28th
Got up early and had a pancake at The Omelete house around 6:00am.
Head downtown Wilmington Waterfront to register for the race at 7:00 am. I was the first to register that wasn't already pre-registered. Got the lucky number 1313.......ew....double whammy!
Called sis-in-law and left her a heckling message cause I thought she was gonna dis me on this one, but she called right right back and said she was on the way!!!! So, I'll have to heckle little bro.......what's up bro.........ya can't hang with the rest of the family????
I tried to stay right behind sis, but she left me on the first hill. She ran a 29:01 and I ran a 32:41.
I passed on the water stop at the first mile, and wouldn't ya know it......they were outta water at the second mile mark? It was stifling hot and I'm not used to the incline/hills either.
Rushed right home to get a shower and go to a funeral. Probably shouldn't go into detail on that, other than it was the mother-in-law of a dear highschool friend. I was glad I was able to make it, and she was a very remarkable and loving woman.
Lunch at K&W.....liver & onions. Then to the hospital to visit my Aunt.
Total mileage for the week = 7.6 miles which includes the 5K

N.C. Blueberry Festival 5K Run

Saturday June 21st. Ran the 4th annual N.C. Blueberry Festival 5K Run in Burgaw.
I brought Abigail and Emily and the stroller with me. Met sis-in-law there. Baby bro had to work until 4:00 am in the morning.
There were several couples with babies in strollers ,so I loaded Ab & Em in their doggie stroller and got at the back of the pack with them.
It was drizzling rain at the start of the race and got continually worse through out the race. We were soaked.
Sis ran a personal best in the low 26's and I have no idea how slow I ran it cause my glasses were so fogged up and wet that I couldn't see. Plus it was too wet and dreary to stay for the race results. Still waiting to find them posted on the web.
Thank Gawd I have a 12 year old crappy minivan to throw the wet dogs and buggy in.

Sis found this race to run in July?!?!

Had lunch at Buffalo Wild wings to celebrate w/family.
Sis-in-law and Baby Bro have shamed me into running today by calling me the "Runless Redneck". They're putting in the miles and I'm getting slack.
But......I'm losing weight? I'm going to claim 199 pounds and holding for now. Been fluctuating between 197 and 200 for a week now.
Finally getting below 200 pounds and it feels good.
Sis-in-law says it's all the hanging upside down that I have been doing on the inversion table.
She says " all the shit is running out my ears while I'm upside down"!
Go to Barbados Blvd. Run 2 miles, and walk it off for a mile! Oh, and I hung upside down for several minutes before and after the run.
Monday June 16th
It's hot as hell outside and I need to recover from yesterday's run, so yeah....I'm "Runless" today!
Tuesday June 17th
Go to Barbados Blvd , run 2 miles, walk 1/2 mile
Very hot and humid!
Wednesday June 18th
Cross-training. Ha ha....
Haul & spread mulch with wheelbarrow & pitchfork for a couple hours.
Thursday June 19th
Got the dogs back today. YAY!!!!!
Take them to Barbados Blvd with the stroller. Walk 1/2 mile, run 2 miles, walk 1 mile.
Cuzzin mark in the hospital.
Got 3 stints put in arteries around his heart! Went to see him tonight w/Dad. Ate Liver and onions at K&W also.
Friday June 20th
Rest Day.
Saturday June 21st
Run 5k at the Blueberry Festival in Burgaw!

Took the girls to the river. Then go by Lynn's and let Ab & Em meet Sammy & Sonny. We took all 4 dogs to Barbados Blvd. I ran 2.4 miles and did over a mile with all 4 dogs in the buggy. Didn't get to walk much before or after the run like I needed. Lynn walked about a mile with the dogs in the buggy. I did do the inversion table when I got home.
Thursday June 5th
Rest day. Took the girls to the river. Extremely hot outside.
Friday June 6th
Too hot and too busy to run again?
Saturday June 7th
Get up early and run 2 miles, walk it off 1/2 mile at Barbados Blvd.

2008 Wilmington Orthopaedic Azalea Run 5K

Went to the 2008 Wilmington Orthopaedic Azalea Run 5K Saturday morning and met little bro and sis-in-law there. It was raining on my drive over but it quit and turned out to be a nice day. I started out slower on this race and managed to have more energy for the middle and end of the run. I was actually able to sprint the last 1/4 mile or so. And like my sis-in-law I walked up this huge hill midway through the course cause I knew it would wear my old arse out if I didn't.
Managed to squeeze off a 31:22 minute 5k with a 10:06 pace.
That's 4 minutes faster than my last race. Maybe the inversion table is helping?

Then we all went to the 3rd Annual Spring Redneck Yacht Club River Poker Run at Castle Hayne. It's about a mile from my house. I proceeded to get into the beer and ruined all the benifits I've been getting from the running. Left there and went to The Redneck Bar about 1/2 mile from the house. I drank so much that I don't remember a whole lot and I've got bumps and bruises from head to toe?

Got distracted......little bro stopped by with his new toy!

We went to the river and I consumed one too many adult beverages!!!!

I did manage to stay on the inversion table quite much today and hit the Total Trainer a little.

Monday May 19th

Work in the yard with shovel, rake and wheel barrow.

Do some serious inversion before and after the run! Go to Barbados Blvd and walk 1 whole mile before the run. Run 2 (sub 12 minute) miles. Walk it off for a mile.

Tuesday May 20th

Go to Clinton and get Ab & Em this afternoon. Been constipated all day! I'm wondering if it's from all the hanging upside down on the inversion table? Like mabe my inards have shifted? Feels like my intestines are wrapped around my brain stem? Shitty day except for gettin' the girls early.

Took Ab & Em and Lulu (mom's pug) to the river for a walk. It was fairly hot. Abigail & Lulu were pantin' pretty hard, so when we got back they stayed in the A/C and me and Em went to Barbados Blvd.

Walk 1/2 mile, run 1.5 miles, walk 1/2 mile. Had the stroller for Emily but she ran and walked a pretty good ways with me. Sub 13 minute mile pace.

Beer & Prunes for supper!!!!

Wednesday May 21st

Rest Day. Took mom to "Something Fishy" for supper. Back home and take the dogs to the river for a short walk.

Thursday May 22nd

Take dogs to the river. Then back home for some inversion. Then to Barbados Blvd w/stroller full of mutts. Walk 1/2 mile, Run 1.5 miles, walk 1/2 mile.

Emily ran a whole 1/2 mile too!!!

Friday May 23rd

Come home a little early and catch a good hour nap. Feed the girls and then load them up in the minivan and head to Wilmington.

Went by Omega Sports to register for the Azalea 5K tomorrow in the Glen Meade neighborhood . $25.00 and didn't even get a T shirt? They ran out before I registered.

Went by the mall and got my watchband fixed. Then kept smelling all sorts of cooked food aromas while there and went on over to K&W Cafeteria for some country style steak ,rice, and turnip greens.

Then took the dogs to Empie Park's Dog Park so they could have some fun. We met a young college gal who had a little poodle mix named "Mishue". She said it was Polish for "Teddy Bear".

Ab & Em had a blast chasing Mishue and he sure enjoyed the chase. They will all sleep good tonight.

Rest day for me!No running.

I took Mom to Ihop with some good friends early this morning. We came home and napped through the lunch time rain storm.
Little bro came over and had Pizza for supper durring the hail storm!




No running today!!!!!

Monday May 12th & Tuesday 13th

Had another good friend of the family pass away Saturday. Spent Monday night at the funeral home visit and Tuesday afternoon at the funeral. This is the third funeral I've been to in just 2 months and went to one back in January too.

Didn't really feel like I was up to a run.

Wednesday May 14th

I have no energy at all. Took mom out to Texas Roadhouse. Miss Civil came and got the girls a day early....bummer:(

The week is almost half over and I haven't done jack Schitt? I'm going to bed!

Thursday May 15th

Got distracted again. Took mom out to Rock-Ola Cafe for supper and we met some dear family friends out there and had a great time. Went by and checked out their new house. So I still haven't made it on a run yet.

Inversion Benifits

It took me quite some time to get it out of the box and figure out how to put it together. I actually broke a sweat putting it together? Stress maybe?

Then I watched the video and figured out how to set it up for my height and level of use. Then used it for several minutes at a time before bed



Friday May 16th

I finally ran today!!!!!Yay!!!!...It's almost been a whole week. I did inversion this morning when I woke up.

Then I did several minutes before my run and after.

I went to Barbados Blvd and ran 2 miles and walked a mile.

Saturday May 17th

Go to Barbados Blvd after some serious inversion. Walk 1/2 mile, run 1 mile, walk 1/2 mile, run 1 mile, walk 1/2 mile.

Come home and do some more inversion after stretching. I love my new inversion table!

Total for the week : Run 4 miles, walk 2.5 miles

My Fortress of Solitude

This is were I go to run and get away from all the traffic and hustle and bustle of life.

I have to let Ab & Em explore just a little before we take off on the run.

This is the only traffic we saw on this particular morning! Don't cha love it!
I'm a chic magnet! What can I say? Wait a minute?...It looks like they are running away from me?
Abigail says enough with the exploring. I'm ready to ride! This is how she let's me know she's had enough of the walking.
Abigail rides by herself until Emily is ready to ride.
Emily say's "Hey!......I'm ready to ride the "Short bus" now!!!"

I don't know why, but Emily does this to Abigail when she is happy! I'll be sittin' at a stop light near the house and see someone pointing to the back of my pickup. I'll look in the rearview mirror and see Emily humping away and Abigail just sits there and lets her do it?

Emily has to get out and run a few 1/4 mile intervals along the way.
Then she rests at the finish line when we're through.
I always try to walk it off afterwards. I guess I let Abigail out of the stroller too soon? I look behind and she's straggling way behind with this ( Hey the truck is this way) look on her face.
Then we turn around and she's the first one in the lead back to the truck?
She let's you know she's ready to get in the truck too!
Emily gets first dibs at the water bowl cause she ran the most!
This is the best part of my running regimine. Couldn't imagine having better running buddies?

Week Number Twenty One

Week Number 21 ( May 4th > May 10th )

Sunday May 4th

Worked all day. Go to Barbados Blvd , run 1/2 mile, walk 1/2 mile, run 1 mile,walk it off for 1 mile. Tired and wore out.
Monday May 5th
Go to Barbados Blvd. Run 1 mile, walk 1/2 mile, run 1.5 miles, walk 1/2 mile.
Tuesday May 6th
Rest day!
Wednesday May 7th
Go to Barbados Blvd. Run 2 miles, walk 1 mile.
Thursday May 8th
Get the girls back today. Take them down to the river for our usual walk, and then to Barbados Blvd with the stroller.
Run 2 Miles, walk 1 mile.
Friday May 9th
No running today. Had to mow and trim and blow the yard. I did manage to take the dogs to the river for their daily walk afterwards.
Saturday May 10 th
Up early for pancakes and bacon at What's Cookin'. Take the dogs to the river so Emily could chase the squirrels. Then we loaded up the stroller and Headed to Barbados Blvd for the morning run.
Walked with the dogs for 1/2 mile. Then loaded them up in the stroller and run 2 miles, and walk it off for 1/2 mile.
I brought the camera and we had so much fun, I decided to do a separate Saturday post on it.

Week Number Twenty

Week Number 20 ( April 27th > May 3rd )
Sunday April 27th
Took the dogs down to the river for an early morning walk and the weather is perfect. Then come back and start on the yard. Mow, trim, and blow. Cut some more trees down and cut and stack firewood.
Emily stayed out in the yard with me most of the morning but Abigail likes to stay inside with the A/C.
Took the dogs to the river again late afternoon for another nice long walk, then head to Barbados Blvd. Abigail fell asleep on the way over and it's just a short trip?
Push them in the stroller at a run for 1 mile ,then walk 1/2 mile, then run another 1.5 miles and walk it off for a 1/2 mile.
Emily had to get out several times and try to run w/me. She did more than a few 1/4 mile intervals. I could hear her chipmunk squeal over the noise of my headphones. That's how she lets me know she's ready to get out and boogie! Abigail just sits still in the stroller the whole way.
They are both wore out and sleeping on my bed right behind me as I type. Getting ready to join them!
Monday April 28th
Two close ones?
Got home from work and took the girls down to the river for their daily walk, then rush home to drop some politicians off at the cess pool. It was so bad I had to give myself as well as the girls a courtesy flush!
Head out to Barbados Blvd and load the girls up in the stroller and took off. Got about a 1/4 mile out and it started to rain.
But that wasn't enough....my bowels started campaigning again?
I quickly turned around for a mad dash back to the minivan!
I didn't even make it 1/4 mile in the mini and had to pull over.
Needless to say.....I had to go "Commando" again!.......on the side of the road leaned up beside the mini.
OK......let's call it a 1/4 mile run with a 1/4 mile sprint today!
Maybe I'll work out on the Total Trainer instead!

Just can't seem to get motivated to run? Been busy after work etc.

Thursday May 1st
Had to make myself get off my lazy ass and try to run today! Walked the girls at the river as usual. Miss Civil walked with us and it was her turn to have the girls, so I had to give them up to her for the week.
Go to Barbados Blvd run 1/2 mile, walk 1/2 mile, run 1 mile, then walk 1/2 mile.
That's all I could muster. Just feel weak?
Friday May 2nd
Had to make myself run again? I din't know what's wrong with me?
Go to Barbados Blvd Run 1.5 miles, walk 1/2 mile.
I have to go in and work some overtime this weekend. That's better for my health and wallet than goin' out and gettin' drunk! I don't think I've gotten over the two drunks I pulled last week yet?
Saturday May 3rd
Worked some overtime today and I'm scheduled to work tomorrow if it doesn't rain us out.
Went to Barbados and run 1/2 mile, walk 1/2 mile, run 1.5 miles, walk 1/2 mile.
Come home and debone about 10 pounds of chicken that have been cooking in the crock pot for almost 6 hours. Got the dogs a stash saved in the freezer.

Week Number Nineteen

Sunday April 20th


Pretty bad hangover from last night. Can't possibly run today. Did manage a few long slow walk/staggers with the dogs at the river and this evening along the railroad tracks in Burgaw.
Monday > Wednesday
Whew!...That drunk I pulled Saturday night was a rough one to overcome. I was still feeling the effects of it Tuesday? It just completely drained me physically and mentally.
Then got too busy trying to help a friend with some plumbing /electrical problems at his mobile home park Wednesday to get a run in.
Thursday April 24th
I finally got a run in!!!! Went out to the Pirates Table for Shrimp and Flounder with a friend. Comeback home and head out to Barbados Blvd. Decided I better start back slow since it's been almost a week since I've run.
Run 1/2 mile in 5 minute range then walk 1/2 mile. Did that 3 times for a total of 1.5 miles run & 1.5 miles walked.
I felt pretty good, but decided not to over do it.
Then I went out to a bar downtown called "The City Limits" and proceeded to drink like a fish. A good time was had by all. Then breakfast at "The Waffle House" and got home and in bed by 2:30, then up at 5:30 to get ready for work.
Friday April 25 th
I can't believe it? I don't feel near as bad as I thought I would? Worked all day and come home and shoveled a few wheelbarrow loads of dirt. Then off to Barbados Blvd and Run 1/2 mile and walk 1/2 mile intervals. Only did that twice for a total of 1 mile run and 1 mile walked.
I felt that one. My drinking binge has finally wore me down. Tired as a Mo-Fo!!!
Saturday April 26th
Been busy this morning with the shovel and wheelbarrow. Then got out the chainsaw and cut down several small trees and cut up into firewood and stacked.
Went to my ex wife's Grand Mother's 90 th Birthday party at 4:00. My Dad went with me and we had a great time. Her Great grandchildren call her Granny Eggs cause they couldn't pronounce her last name when they were little and it stuck!
I dearly love Granny Eggs!
Never did get in a run today and I have a pittiful total this week cause I partied too much!

Week Number Eighteen

I should be recovering from the 5K yesterday, but after shoveling horse shit all morning and playing lifeguard for Abigail at the pool........I felt cocky enough for a run.
Went to Barbados Blvd with the doggies in their stroller and ran 2.5 miles & walked 1.5 miles.
Monday April 14th
Busy day at work today. Not used to using my brain this hard in a while. I just feel completely exhausted. Don't know if it's the 5 K and yesterday's workout catching up to me or what?
It's drizzling outside and I guess that's a good enough excuse for a rest day!
Tuesday April 15th......Tax Day!
I rushed home from work and took the dogs to PetSmart to get dogfood. Then stopped at Food Lion and picked up about $70 worth of groceries. Then I took the dogs to the river for a long walk. I'm still too tired to run. Come home and crash.
Wednesday April 16th
Take the dogs to Barbados Blvd. Run 2.5 miles w/dogs in stroller, & walk it of for a half mile with them. Then put the dogs in the minivan and run another mile on my own. Then walk it off for a half mile.
Thursday April 17th
I had plans to run today but got distracted. I went over to a friend's house and helped with some yard work. Worked up a pretty good sweat with that. I bought an old trailer from him to haul my mower and brought that home. Then my dad and one of his buddies came over to check out my new project and we drank a few beers. Needless to say ....that was the end of any attempt at a running workout.
We probably spread a pickup truck load or more of mulch around Rick's yard, and hauled off a load of limbs and stumps. That's my kind of workout anyway.
Friday April 18th
Hit the big 51 today. That's better than takin' a dirt nap?
Got up early and had a "Heart Stopper" breakfast at What's Cookin' .
Then come home and make sure my mower will fit my new trailer. Practiced loading and unloading it on the trailer. Perfect fit!
Mowed and weed trimed the yard.
Left my front yard just before 10:00 am and ran the loop in Castle Hayne. It's actually 3.1 miles around and back to my house. I ran it in just under 38 minutes. I had to stop once to give an elder lady driving directions to Mcdougal dr.
It was extremely hot in the sun and felt like you were in the air conditioning when you would hit the shady spots.
I walked it off around the backyard in the shade with the dogs.
Took a shower and cleaned up cause it was party time.
My Dad , little bro, and I have a tradition of eating chicken wings and drinking beer at "Hooters" 3 times a year on each of our birthdays.
Dad came and picked me up and we went over to Scott's. My little niece was skipping school today and we couldn't talk her into going to Hooters with us.
But she agreed to go to Buffalo Wild Wings.
Mental note......Asian Zing is just a little too hot for my taste!
Ameron couldn't stay long cause she had to go to work. So then Dad, Scott and I headed over to Hooters for a pitcher of beer and some interesting scenery. I'm glad Ameron didn't go to Hooters with us cause I wouldn't want her to see me ogeling our waitress, not to mention I was getting a pretty good buzz from the beers.
Our waitress was stunningly beautiful and she had a personality to match. The only problem is I'm old enough to be her Dad. We had some good harmless fun with her and she seemed to be having just as good a time as we were.
But Jeeeeeeeese!!!!!! I'm still a pervert!!!!! A 51 year old pervert at that!
At least I'm not dead!!!!.........or worse....gay!!!!!!!
Saturday April 19th
Had a good buddy from Raleigh come down to visit. I knew I should have ran this morning?
It was Happy Birthday all over again. He took me to Hooter's for lunch. Let the drinkin' begin!!!!
My favorite waitress wasn't there, but..................
We went to Buffalo Wild Wings for supper and she was our waitress there!!!
She works at my two favorite wing joints!!!
Then we went to "The Dirty Martini" at Wrightsville Beach and had a blast the rest of the night.

Oak Island Lighthouse 5K April 12th

I finished my first 5K for the year in 35:30. Way off the mark from my last one almost ten years ago.
The weather was beautiful except it was a little windy, but the wind was at our backs so that helped with the run.

But best of all......my sis-in-law took first in her age group with a 27:14.......and my little brother took first in his age group at 22:42.

I've already found the results on the Wilmington Roadrunners website. I came in 100th place....Damn?.......there were 99 people ahead of me!!!!!LOL!!!!!

Week Number Seventeen

Sunday April 6th

Work on the yard and build a "lean-to" off the back of my shed all day long. Sweating my old arse off, pretty much the whole time.
Finally get out to Barbados Blvd about 8:20 and run 2 miles walk 1/2 mile. Wore slam out!
Monday April 7th
Come home after work and finish up fastening the roof on the "lean-to". Haul off some debri, then come back and wash the mold off the vinyl siding of the shed with clorox mixture.
Too damn tired, wore out, and sore to run tonight. Take a hot bath and a valium. Hopefully it will make me sleep peacefully tonight
Tuesday April 8th
Work in the yard after work till I get a good sweat. Then go to Barbados Blvd and walk 1 mile, run 2 miles, and walk 1 mile.
Wednesday April 9th


Go to Barbados Blvd and walk 1 mile, run 2 miles, and walk 1 mile.

Thursday & Friday April 10th & 11th

Taking two whole rest days before the big 5K at Oak Island tomorrow!

Raining all day. Spent about 45 minutes on Total Trainer upper and lower body.

Still raining but warm enough to run. Go to Barbados Blvd and run 2 miles, and walk 1 mile.
Tuesday April 1st
Run 2 miles walk 1/2 mile
Work out on total trainer
Wednesday April 2nd
Dig four holes forty some inches deep with the post hole diggers for the corner post of the new redneck carport.
Take Abigail, Emily and their cousin Jack to the river for a walk. We're doggie sitting Jack tonight.
Then go to Barbados Blvd and walk 1 mile, run 1.5 miles, walk 1/2 mile.
Thursday April 3rd
Rest day. Sore as hell.Feel like an old man.
Friday April 4th
Take dogs to the river, spend about an hour on the dirt pile with the shovel, then go to Barbados blvd. Load the dogs up in the stroller and walk 1 mile, run 2.5 miles, and walk it off for 1/2 mile.
Saturday April 5th
Rain most of the day. Decide to take a rest day. Hopefully I will get busy tomorrow.

Week Number Fifteen

Sunday and Monday didn't do anything. Too busy with personal stuff.

Tuesday March 25th

My Uncle Louis passed away today. This doesn't seem like the proper place to mention it , but he and my Aunt and all my cousins are very important to me. He will be dearly missed.
I was able to spend some time with the family and then come home and run.
The run was like therapy for me and I managed to cover 3 miles in 36 minutes and 10 seconds. Which is my best time yet by the way. I walked a mile before and after the run.
Hopefully I'll be below 200 pounds by race day. I just have to get more serious about dieting.
My lungs are holding out fine. Just waiting for my legs to get in better shape and losing weight will make it easier on the old joints.
Wednesday March 26th
No running, but spend over an hour with the shovel, rake, and chainsaw in the backyard.
Thursday March 27th
Spent the afternoon at aunt Gretchen's with family. Miss Civil brought Ab & Em to me.
Friday March 28th
Went to the funeral for uncle Louis today. It was all surreal to me for some reason. I remember the blossoms of the Bradford pear trees at the grave site. It was rather windy, but it felt good as it cooled us off from the warm sun. At one time it reminded me of an enchanted forest with the blossoms floating and fluttering from the trees.
The family with all my cousins were just as beautiful and they are a living testament to the goodness of uncle Louis.
I came home and took a nap with the girls and then we went to the river for their walk.
Then we went to Barbados Blvd with the stroller. I ran 2 miles and walked 2 miles while pushing the dogs in the stroller.
The run was cut short by a call from a good friend. We went out and had a few drinks and supper with some more good friends.
It was a fine ending to a surreal day.

Too cold and windy to get out and chance getting a cold.

Week Number Fourteen

Cross-training today!LOL!
I didn't feel like running after spending a couple of hours on my dirt pile! I have these huge mounds of dirt that were dug out of a ditch behind my place over 50 years ago. I've moved quite a lot of it myself over the past year with a shovel and wheelbarrow.
I put an add in Craigslist for free dirt and I had some folks come over and dig 5 or six truck loads this weekend.
I pretty much know they are going to do the easy digging and leave the stumps so I dig up the stumps and dress it up a little after they leave.
I couldn't believe how hard I was breathing just digging and swinging a pick axe. I had to stop and rest about 3 or 4 times during my 2 hours in the dirt.

Monday March 17th

Rest day, go to the visitation at Valley Chapel Mortuary with Dad. I had a high school buddy get killed in a chopper crash last Thursday.

Tuesday March 18th

Johnny's funeral this morning. It was the largest gathering of people for a funeral that I have ever been to in my life. He truly was an amazing human being. It was an honor to say he was your friend.

Took the girls to the river for their 1/2 mile jaunt this evening. Then to Barbados Blvd and put them in the stroller. I ran 3 miles in just over 40 minutes while pushing them. Stopped long enough to tie shoes and let Emily out of the stroller to run along beside me 2 or 3 times. Then walked it off for a mile.

That's my longest distance for the whole 14 weeks so far. Felt pretty good.

And sis-in-law says our 5K date is April 12th at Oak Island. That's a week before I turn 51!!!!LOL!!!! Thanks for motivating me sis! I couldn't do it without seeing all the progress you and Scott are making. Just to run 3 miles is a major accomplishment for me at this point in my life.

Wednesday March 19th

Take dogs to Barbados with stroller. Walk 1 mile,then run/waddle 2 miles, and walk it off for a mile. My arse was dragging and I'm sore as hell.

Thursday & Friday March 20th & 21st

Didn't have time to do much of anything these past couple of days. Plus I was still recovering from the 3 miler and the two miler.

Saturday March 22nd

Go to Barbados Blvd and run 3 miles in just under 38 minutes. Walk it off for a mile.

Total for the week ; 8 miles run, 4.5 miles walked, and 2 hours with a shovel in my hand.

Rest day. Too busy with getting my truck serviced etc.
Tuesday March 11th
Spend about two hours on the wrong end of a shovel digging a trench, trying to find some water lines and electrical lines in the back yard. Worked up a pretty good sweat. Then head off to Barbados Blvd and walk 1 mile then run 2 miles and walk another mile. Tired and dehydrated when I got home.
Wednesday March 12th
I got the girls back today and took them down to the river for our little half mile walk. I could tell I was still wore out from yesterday's workout, so I decided to take a rest and chill out with the gals.
Thursday March 13th
I've always heard that Friday the 13th was a bad day, but I'll never forget this 13th.
A good friend was killed today and my words could never do him justice.
Johnny, Ill never forget the summer of 75 when you and I and Buddy rode down to Fort Lauderdale in your jet black 1971 Dodge Challenger and stayed for a week.
Those were the days man!
I tried to run today, but my heart wasn't in it and it's not even worth mentioning.
Friday March 14th

Take dogs to river for 1/2 mile walk, then to Barbados blvd for 1mile walk & 2 mile run with dogs in stroller. The wind was blowing so hard it felt like I had a parachute strapped to my back.

My right knee is starting to bother me. This is my bad knee from an old injury, and I'm not sure if the running or the stertching exercises are what have made it tender. It doesn't hurt to put weight on it. But it hurts when I lift the leg up off the ground?

Anyway I have decided to give it a few days break since the weather is so wet and windy!

Week Number Eleven

Sunday Feb 24th

Go to Barbados Blvd walk 1 mile, then run 1 mile in 10 minutes 15 seconds, walk 1/2 mile, run 1/2 mile in way under 6 minutes, walk it all off for 1 mile.
Total today run 1.5 miles and walk 2.5 miles.
Monday Feb 25th
Came home from work and didn't feel like running, so I soaked my feet in a hot tub of epsom salt. That woke me up enough to put my running shoes on and head down to the beach. I started right out running without a warm up walk and managed to run 2 miles in a little over 24 minutes. Walked it off for a half mile. Then jump in my truck and rush home. Coughed and hacked most of the way home? Got home and took a "Mucinex" and soaked my tootsies again.
The cough wasn't actually a bad cough? It was more like I was coughing up mucus I didn't even know I had?
Total so far this week 3.5 miles running, and 3 miles walked.
Tuesday Feb 26th
Go out to eat super w/Dad at K & W.
It's been raining most of the afternoon, so come home and walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes fully inclined. I actually worked up a sweat?
I decided to do some serious stretching after that since my whole body was pretty warmed up, but not exhausted.
I read about these stretches on Lesley's blog and decided to incorporate them with some resistance exercises with my dumbells and kettlebell to save time. Also did a few exercises on the "Total Trainer".
Wednesday Feb 27th
I swear?....Looks like my body keeps coming up with reasons not to run? I woke up yesterday with my left ankle feeling a little tender from the two previous day's runs. Then I woke up this morning with it hurtin' like hell and I've been limpin' on it all day. I'm not even gonna hit the treadmill today.
So, I'm still stuck at 3.5 miles run, 3 miles walked and 30 minutes on the treadmill for the week.
Thursday Feb 28th
Still resting the ankle. Got the girls today, so I'm laying around bonding with them.
Friday Feb 29th....."Leap Year Day"
Took the girls to the beach today. Walked about 3 miles with them including pushing them in their stroller. I had the day off for a dental appointment. The ankle feels OK. Maybe I'll try to run on it tomorrow.
Saturday March 1st
Took the dogs to the river for a 1/2 mile walk. Then we shot over to Barbados Blvd. I pushed them in the stroller, and we ran 2miles and walked it off for a mile. The ankle feels good to go?
Totals for the week are 5.5 miles run, 7.5 miles walked, and 30 minutes on the treadmill.

Haven't done any running until today Saturday Feb 23rd. So it's been two whole weeks since I've done any running!

Week Number Nine

Week Number 9 ( Feb 10th > Feb 16th )

Sunday Feb 10th

Went to bed coughing and woke up coughing. I've been feeling under the weather for almost four weeks, and it finally came to a head last night. I've been coughing to the point of almost throwing up.
Stay inside all day except to venture out for egg drop soup at Jungs, only to find out they were closed. So I went to the Jade Garden and got broccoli and shrimp plate to go.
Monday Feb 11th
Called in for a sick day. My throat feels like it's been doused with battery acid! The coughing fits are finally getting fewer and farther between. Had a good friend bring me some egg drop soup from Jungs around lunch time. I made it last until supper. It feels so good on my throat.
I hate being sick around the dogs, and I hope I don't give them any germs. This was supposed to be Miss Civil's weekend to have them but something came up? They don't understand why I don't take them out for their walks.
Tuesday Feb 12th
Another sick day from work. My abs feel like I've been doing the abs of steel workouts from all the coughing. Woke up this morning with a bloody nose. Must have busted a blood vessel during the night with all the coughing?
I've got my order in for more egg drop soup from Jungs.
The dogs are starting to get restless. They can only lie around with my sick ass for so long. I'm gonna have to bundle up and take them on a short walk.
Stay home and get well the rest of the week!
No workouts this week! Nadda! Nothing!
